VICTORIAS CITY, Negros Occidental—Eagle Scout Organization of the Philippines Puerto Princesa Council Chapter (ESOP-PPC) started its own Community Pantry—”Gulay ng Masa: Magbigay ayon sa kakayahan, kumuha batay sa pangangailangan” last April 23.

Scout Leader Karl Coloquio, ESA together with the other scouts from ESOP-PPC and BSP Palawan-Puerto Princesa Council organized this initiative inspired by the Maginhawa Community Pantry which aims to help other people to survive amidst the pandemic.

In an online interview with AMAPS, Coloquio said that they brought it up in their group chat. They brainstormed about it and decided to adopt the Community Pantry trend. According to Coloquio, this will lessen the burden of their “kababayan”, especially now that their city is under a hard lockdown since April 22.

He further said that, “ito ay amin ring ginawa upang magbigay inspirasyon sa ating mga kapwa scouts na tumulong din sa kanilang mga kababayang kapos o nahihirapan sa mga panahong ito. [Sabi ko nga sa isang post ko] together, let’s ripple the spirit of bayanihan and volunteerism. Malaki ang magiging impact ng Community Pantry na ito upang matulungan ang ating gobyerno upang matugunan ang mga pangangailangan ng bawat komunidad.”

The said pantry was located at the BSP Training Center, Brgy. Sta. Monica, Puerto Princesa City, they are open for in-kind and cash donations.
