SAGUDAY, Quirino—The Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) and the Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP) from Quirino Council celebrated the Scout Scarf Day with a series of Scouting activities last August 1, 2022, at Saguday National High School (SNHS), Saguday, Quirino.

Eleven Scouts from the BSP and three from the GSP participated in the event. The Scouts came from five institutions: SNHS, Diffun National High School (DNHS), Quirino General High School (QGHS), Cabarroguis National School of Arts and Trades (CNSAT), and Burgos National High School (BNHS).

The celebration began at around 11 o’clock in the morning, with a simple opening ceremony. The event featured a Scouts Kaalaman lecture, in which the Council’s Scout Executive, Sctr. Delio Montemayor, discussed the importance of the Scout neckerchief as a symbol in the Scouting Movement. Montemayor also gave the Scouts insights in the connection of the neckerchief to the Scout’s identity and their mission to leave the world a better place than they found it.

The Scouts also conducted a tree parenting activity where they visited the Miracle Fruit tree saplings which were planted as part of the Scouts Go Green Challenge. Other activities include a Scout Scarf Exhibit, a Scarf Design Contest, and a Unity Walk around the SNHS campus.

The Scout Scarf Day is an annual event addressed to all former and active Scouts around the world. All Scouts are encouraged to wear their Scarfs in public to make the “Spirit of Scouting” visible.

“Ngayon ang perpektong araw para ipagmalaki ang iyong Scout Scarf. Isuot ang iyong Scarf at kumuha ng mga larawan (na nakasuot nito) para i-post sa social media upang ipakita na “Once a Scout! Always a Scout!”” (“Today is the perfect time to proudly display your Scout Scarf. Let us don our Scarfs, take selfies with and to share in social media to show that once a Scout! Always a Scout!”) Council Scout Representative Kyrth Justine Laitan said in his opening speech to the Scouts.

The BSP and GSP Quirino Council joins other Scouts around the country and the world in celebrating the event. The event commemorates the first Scout Camp on Brownsea Island in 1907.
