SAGUDAY, Quirino—Scouts from four municipalities conducted a tree planting activity for the Scouts Go Green Challenge last Thursday, June 16, around Saguday National High School (SNHS), Saguday, Quirino.

The tree planting activity is part of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) Quirino Council’s participation in the 2022 Scouts Go Green Challenge, a tree planting and nurturing contest. The Scouts who participated in the activity came from the municipalities of Saguday, Aglipay, Cabarroguis, and Diffun.

The Scouts began propagating Miracle Fruit Tree saplings in the first week of March. The saplings came from Miracle Fruit Tree cuttings. They nurtured the saplings in the school nursery until they were ready for transplanting.

The SNHS community provided the Scouts with the tools and equipment needed to complete the challenge. They also assisted in the propagation, nurturing, and transplanting of the saplings.

Around 20 Miracle Fruit Tree saplings were initially planted by the Scouts around the SNHS campus. The saplings that remain at the nursery are to be planted later by the Scouts of SNHS and the school community.

The BSP National Office Memorandum No. 9 series 2022 introduced the Scouts Go Green Challenge. The challenge is a tree planting and nurturing contest launched in support of the Scouts Go Green program.

The memorandum laid out the guidelines and criteria for the challenge. The contest is open to all BSP local councils and Scouting units.
