CABARROGUIS, Quirino—The Women of the Ten Outstanding Boy Scouts of the Philippines Association (TOBSPA) hosted a webinar about gender-related issues on April 24, 2022.
The online event tackled matters about gender equality and Gender-Based Violence (GBV). They also discussed the Safe from Harm (SfH) policy of the World Organization of the Scouting Movement (WOSM).
Maria Aimee Santos-Lyons, gender justice adviser, discussed gender equality and GBV. Santos-Lyons presented the roots and causes of GBV, its various definitions, and forms. She also stressed the consequences GBV has on the victims across the gender spectrum.
Malcolm BH Tan of the Singapore Scout Association presented the SfH policy of the WOSM. Tan summarized the history, relevance, and importance of SfH in the Scouting Movement. He also outlined the recommendations and key principles in implementing the SfH policy.
The Women of TOBSPA conducted the webinar in line with the 2022 National Women’s Month Celebration. The celebration endeavors to promote gender equality and ensure progress in empowering women.
The webinar aimed to raise awareness among young Scouts and adult leaders on GBV and how to deal with or prevent it in the Scouting Movement.
The Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) promotes gender equality and the Safe from Harm policy. Through various actions and programs, BSP ensures a safe environment for all Scouts.
The Women of TOBSPA made it their mission to create a safer world for the Scouts. They aim to identify gaps in the implementation of policies and promote dialogues to address the gender needs of the Scouts.
