TARLAC, Philippines—On December 4, 2021, members of the Rover Circle United 08 vowed to protect the planet Earth by pledging to the 10-point manifesto launched by the Boy Scouts of the Philippines.

A local community-based Rover Scouting unit in Cabanatuan City is now in the last phase of their Tide Turner Plastic challenge badge journey. As part of it, they conducted clean-up drives to various bodies of water in their area. According to their Circle Manager Alen Paul Madriaga, this clean-up drive was part of their activities that will continue until February 2022.

“Today, we have targeted four bodies of water that will benefit from our clean-up drive. They are Aulo Lake, River of Bulwagan ng mga Katutubo, Hanging Bridge Creek at Barangay Langka, and Sitio Bacao Falls,” Madriaga stated. All these bodies of water are located in Palayan City, Nueva Ecija.

“We are going to conduct clean-up drives to help preserve these areas. Right now, we identified four [places] but we are going to clean a total of 10 bodies of water,” he added.

The TTPC pioneers are eyeing to clean and preserve areas near seas, creeks, rivers, dams, and falls. They said that this is to clean the areas from litter left by tourists.

Aside from the clean-up drive, they also put signage in strategic locations. These signs will serve as a reminder to people not to litter and keep the area clean.

“We are not only cleaning the areas, but we are also inviting the other people to be part of our actions. We can’t maintain these efforts without the help of others, especially the locals. Let’s work together. Let’s sign the petition now.,” he said as he called on the people to unite and protect the planet from further destructions.

The group, who are part of the Amateur Media Association of Philippine Scouts committed to the manifesto to Protect the Planet. They took photos of them holding the 10-points of this manifesto.

The unit also said that they are doing this not just for their benefit, but also to save the life below water.
